The levada starts at 310 meters above sea level, near the charming church of Ponta do Sol. As you set off, you’ll follow two distinct “levadas” Levada dos Moinhos and Levada Nova each offering its own unique charm and beauty.
Levada do Alecrim is approximately 9 kilometers (5.6 miles) long and takes around 3.5 hours to complete. It's a relatively easy hike, with just a few steep sections and narrow paths that require careful treading.
The Levada do Rei begins in the Water Treatment Station in Quebradas in São Jorge. This route skirts the valley of São Jorge, where we can observe some herbs and medicinal plants and at the same time learn a little about them.
