World Tourism Day celebrated today with initiatives in Madeira and Porto Santo

Today, September 27th, is World Tourism Day. The date is marked with initiatives on the islands of Madeira and Porto Santo, with the main objective of “promoting the continuous qualification of these tourist destinations”, highlights a note from the Madeira Tourism Promotion Association (APM) sent to the newsroom.

“After, in July, tourism in the region reached historic values, with 1 million overnight stays – the first time that the number of overnight stays exceeds this mark in a month -, the sector maintains an unquestionable and growing weight in economic activity in the Islands. of Madeira and Porto Santo. In this context, the commemorations of the World Tourism Day will have due prominence and the greatest importance throughout the Region.”

To commemorate this date, throughout the day, there will be surprise moments in Funchal, Praça do Povo, and Porto Santo, Largo das Palmeiras and Cais Velho, as well as musical performances in several municipalities (Funchal, Santa Cruz, Santana and Ribeira Brava).

In addition to activating the Madeira Brand, there will also be specific actions for Tourist Offices, in order to create interaction between tourists and free admission to museums, cultural centers, gardens and other spaces. It is intended, therefore, to promote the destination, to make known the diversified offer of the island and, above all, to know the opinion and possible suggestions of the tourists.

In this way, APM guarantees total alignment with the World Tourism Organization (WTO), which highlights the importance of this day as an opportunity to rethink how we do Tourism.

He adds: “The focus on the future is also a concern for Madeira Tourism, confident in the consolidation of growth and diversification of markets. This day will be strategic for the Brand to reinforce its positioning and communication around the main axes: Madeira, where we live as a place; where we feel among friends; where we always want to come back and where we feel good.”
