This afternoon, members of the Funchal Lifeguard Station rescued a 19-year-old German woman and a 21-year-old English man who were in difficulty in the water, near the Ponta do Sol pier.

After an alert received at 3:10 pm, through the Funchal Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Subcenter (MRSC Funchal), reporting two people in difficulty in the water, the crew of the Funchal Lifeguard Station were immediately activated, as well as elements of the Humanitarian Association of Firefighters of Ribeira Brava and Ponta do Sol.

Upon arriving at the scene, the Lifeguard Station crew found that the victims were showing signs of fatigue, and rescued them to the Ribeira Brava pier, where they were waiting for the firefighters who later transported them to a hospital.

The local command of the Funchal Maritime Police took charge of the incident.
