Tourist injured in Levada of 25 fountains rescued by helicopter

A 37 year old foreign tourist was rescued on Monday in Levada das 25 Fontes, in Calheta, after suffering severe trauma on a leg that prevented her from returning on foot to the Rabaçal area.

The relief operation was conducted Civil Protection, through the Regional Relief Operations Command (CROS), and counted the rescue team of the Volunteer Firefighters of Calheta, rescue team and ambulance of the Portuguese Red Cross, the Medical Rapid Intervention Team (EMIR) and the patrol of the Forest Police.

Due to the impossibility of the victim to continue the route, the Civil Protection helicopter was activated, with a team with a saving-recover operator. The woman was transported by helicopter to Cancela, where the EMIR medical team and the Portuguese Red Cross rescuers team, who carried out the new clinical evaluation, were waiting for.

Subsequently, the victim was referred by ambulance to Dr Hospital. Nélio Mendonça, in Funchal, where she was admitted to the emergency service in the area of Orthopedics.
