MadeiraShopping hosts the collective exhibition ‘Levadas da Madeira’, which celebrates and promotes the candidacy presented to UNESCO Cultural Heritage.
From the 14th to the 28th of July, models and images will be on display representing this multifunctional system of water transport channels that is used for human consumption, agricultural irrigation and other irrigation, the action of traditional mills, the production of electricity and for the enjoyment of the nature, through pedestrianism.
The exhibition will be on floor 0 where there will be 10 exhibition structures (roll ups) of the official application and 26 models resulting from the competition “Levadas in miniature”, to which 403 participants from 18 Madeiran institutions joined. The competition was launched for pre-school and 1st cycle children, as well as users of the Activities and Training Centers for Inclusion in Madeira.
This competition was promoted by the Regional Secretariat for the Environment, Natural Resources and Climate Change (SRAAC), through the Institute of Forests and Nature Conservation (IFCN) with the aim of raising awareness and involving the school community in the application.
Alberto Pereira, director of MadeiraShopping, declares that “It is with great pride that MadeiraShopping hosts this exhibition, contributing to a greater involvement of Madeirans in this very important candidacy for the region. Bringing the levadas to the center is a different way of promoting the its importance and also to create different experiences for our visitors”.
